Exmoor House gained a Green Tourism Silver Award in December
2008. We have also achieved a Best Performer 2008 award from
Green Tourism, making us one of the top 12 out of 425 accommodation businesses
assessed by them that year.
At Exmoor House we are committed to reducing our impact on the
environment. We are doing this by, for example:
* Minimising waste and reusing/recycling as much as we can
* Monitoring our use of energy and water and reducing this wherever possible
* Using environmentally-friendly cleaning products and toiletries
* Using refillable bottles for shampoo, shower gel, etc
* No longer providing plastic bottles of water
* Buying food and drink from local producers and suppliers
* Growing herbs and some salad crops in the garden
* Providing information for our guests on local attractions and public transport
* Providing facilities for walkers and cyclists
* Supporting local and environmental organisations (e.g. The Exmoor Society,
Garden Organic, Forum 21, Transition Minehead & Alcombe)
* Banking with The Co-Operative, which follows ethical policies
All this also helps us keep our costs down, and in turn helps us to keep our prices good value! While not an exhaustive list, it will give you an idea of the kind of actions we're taking. If you have any comments or questions, do let us know.
