Dinner at Exmoor House, Wheddon Cross

Exmoor House dinner bed and breakfast packages are very good value, and most of our guests have an evening meal here every night during their stay. You can choose whether to have a two or three course dinner (or four courses). Coffee, tea or infusions are included in the price too. Live near Minehead and West Somerset, or on a self-catering holiday, and looking for good places to eat on Exmoor? Non-residents are very welcome to book dinner here - call Rosi and Frank on 01643 841432.

The dinner menu changes every day, with a few choices at each course: see our sample dinner menus. We vary the menu with the seasons, and according to our guests' requirements. Everything is genuinely home-made - about the only things we don't make ourselves are cheese and wine!

There is generally a vegetarian and / or fish choice, and we are very happy to cater for (e.g.) wheat-free, gluten-free and dairy-free diets, as long as we know beforehand. Our priority is to make sure you thoroughly enjoy your time with us, so please do tell us about any dietary needs and preferences when you make your booking. In this way we can ensure that the day's menu provides a good selection for everybody (it's also one of the reasons why it's essential to reserve a table in advance).

One of the Exmoor House specialities is proper pies (i.e. with the filling cooked in a pastry case - not a bit of puff pastry baked separately and plonked on top); we make pie fillings to suit carnivores and vegetarians. Frank's ice creams have been described as 'to die for', and Rosi has developed some fabulous sundaes to showcase the different flavours. If you don't have a sweet tooth, though, there is always the option of Somerset cheeses instead of pudding (or you're welcome to add the cheese and biscuits as an extra course).

Wines, local beers and ciders at Exmoor House

To complement your meal we have some very nice wines, supplied by a local wine expert, some of them organic. We also buy Exmoor wines direct from the nearby Dunkery vineyard, including a sparkling Exmoor Brut that has received rave reviews.

If beer is more your thing, we have a range of bottled beers from local brewers (based in Wiveliscombe) Cotleigh Brewery and Exmoor Ales, including Exmoor Gold and Barn Owl. And being in Somerset, there are always a few local ciders (from Sheppy’s near Taunton). You'll also find the usual spirits, fortified wines, etc, on our honesty bar.

Summer on Exmoor

July, August and September are the season of festivals and fairs, so if you're visiting Exmoor in the next couple of months, why not join in the festivities? Visit our events page for some ideas.

But if it's peace and tranquillity you're after, then Exmoor National Park has that in abundance, too.
