Information about Exmoor House - a special place to stay

Exmoor House has a welcoming, peaceful atmosphere - one of the things that attracted us in the first place and something that our guests frequently comment on. After a day exploring, walking or cycling on Exmoor, what could be better than relaxing with some tea and home-made cake in front of the log fire, or enjoying an aperitif out on the terrace before dinner?

Guest accommodation at Exmoor House is in three twin/double bedrooms (can be either twins or doubles), a double bedroom and a family room. All five rooms are en suite, either with bath or shower. (For more information about the rooms, our great food, prices and - we hope - just about everything else you might need to know, click on the blobs above or the links at the bottom of the page.)

The house has an unusual history - it was built in Edwardian times for a local tailor. Exmoor House: exterior, hall, sitting room, bedroom . Exmoor House feels more like a home than a hotel, with wood panelling contrasting with bright, contemporary colours
What is now our dining room, with its views of Dunkery Beacon, was orginally the tailor’s shop. The guests’ sitting room was built as the village reading room (a kind of mini-library); it's also been the tailors’ cutting room and, at one point, a 'Santa's grotto' for village children to choose their Christmas presents. The rooms still have their original wooden panelling, giving them a cosy, homely feel.

In winter there's a crackling log fire in the sitting room - perfect for relaxing after a day on the moors with, perhaps, a warming glass of whisky from our honesty bar. You won’t find any blaring TVs here; what you will find is an interesting selection of books and magazines - many of them about Exmoor - and a collection of board games. There are also plenty of maps and guide books so that you can plan the following day’s expedition.

In the summer, why not take your drinks out onto the terrace and soak up the sun or, if it’s a warm evening, perhaps check out our amazing night sky. Exmoor's dark skies are some of the best in the UK. There is very little light pollution here to contend with, so for astronomers - or anybody just interested in star gazing - this is the place to be, and Exmoor House is a perfect place to stay.

Exmoor House is non-smoking throughout.

We have parking for cars and motorcycles and lockable undercover storage for bicycles.
